West Fargo, Fargo, and Cass County has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc., of Ormond Beach, Florida, for its "CodeRED" high-speed telephone emergency notification services. The CodeRED system gives city and county officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.
CodeRED weather warning are an opt-in only service. To sign up, visit the West Fargo CodeRED Residential and Business Data Collection page to enter your contact information and agree to the terms and conditions. Then select the type of weather warnings you would like to receive.
CodeRED always de-duplicates by phone number, so if you are unsure if you are registered, just submit your information again to ensure you are in the database,
If there is an answering device associated with the number you registered with CodeRED the system will leave a message.
There are many different brands and types of capturing devices for leaving a message. Occasionally something about the answering device or the beep of the device causes the system to think it has reached a live person and begins playing the message. When the message is left, it then only leaves part of the message.
You can call back the 1-866-419-5000 and receive the entire message.
This does not happen often, but CodeRED calls approximately 23,000 records in this area and there is a chance a few residents will receive one of these.
If you have a ring back tone on the number you registered with CodeRED the system will interpret this as an Operator Intercept and hang up, only to retry the number.
There are two options to fix this:
1) Remove the ring back tone
2) Contact the cellphone provider and request that the phone number 866-419-5000 for CodeRED and 800-566-9780 for weather warning be bypassed by this feature.
Any message regarding the safety, property or welfare of the community may be disseminated using the CodeRED system. These may include AMBER alerts, notifications of hazardous traffic or road conditions, boil water advisories or evacuation notices.
This system is an enhancement to existing means of communication and is meant to supplement systems used for mass notification. It is one way Public Safety officials may communicate emergency information to the Public. Other ways may include: Website, social media, local media, warning sirens, or emails.
To ensure no one is omitted, the West Fargo Police Department urges all individuals and businesses to follow the link to the West Fargo CodeRED Residential and Business Data Collection page. Those without Internet access may call the West Fargo Police Department at 433-5500 to give their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers (optional).
No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and who use a cellular phone as their primary home phone.
The CodeRED system is a geographical based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation. The system works fine for cell phones too, but we have to have a street address. People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database.
Yes. Fill out the CodeRED registration form but be sure to select the “This address is business” option. Please note that emergency calls can only be delivered to a direct dial number. Automated attendants will disrupt the process and the calls will not be delivered. Businesses should register their main number and establish a procedure for distributing the CodeRED message to their workforce.
