1. Who can get a West Fargo Public Library card?

West Fargo Public Library cards are issued to the following people free of charge: 

• residents of West Fargo 
• residents of the West Fargo school district (including Horace, Harwood and parts of Fargo)
• West Fargo property owners
• employees of the West Fargo school district 
• employees of the City of West Fargo 
• Residents of Fargo and Moorhead may obtain a card at no charge IF they present a library card from their home library (either the Fargo Public Library or Lake Agassiz Regional Library.) It is important to note, however, that patrons who get a card at a neighboring city's library through this reciprocity program will not have access to that library's online resources. All library cardholders are encouraged to use the online resources of their home library. Reciprocity program cardholders are also unable to request interlibrary loans at the West Fargo Public Library and are encouraged to do so at their home library.

All other individuals not listed above can obtain a West Fargo Public Library card for an annual fee of $25. 

Please note: West Fargo Public School students in grades 6 and above are able to use their Student ID as a West Fargo Public Library card if their parent/guardian opts in to the program. Learn more about this partnership with the West Fargo Public School district here. 

2. How do I get a West Fargo Library card?

Application forms (PDF) can be downloaded and printed or picked up from the library service desk. All print applications must be signed and submitted in person at the library service desk, along with identification and proof of address. You can also register for a card online using our Online Library Card Application Form. However, you must wait for your physical card to arrive via mail before borrowing materials.

3. What do I do if my library card is lost, stolen or damaged?

Please report all lost or stolen cards immediately. You will be responsible for any items checked out on your card unless you have notified the library that it is missing.

Replacement cards are available for a $1.00 fee.

4. What should I do if I move or change my name?

If you would like to update your account to a new address or to reflect a name change, visit the service desk for help. Be sure to bring your valid ID that lists your new address or name change or your ID plus another proof of address or proof of name change. Your account can then be updated at no cost. 

If you move out of the West Fargo Public Library's service area and would like to continue having full access using your West Fargo Public Library card, you will need to pay the annual out-of-area fee.  

5. What should I do if my library card is expired?

At some point during your time as a West Fargo Public Library patron, you will find you need to renew your library card. Free, full-access West Fargo Public Library cards need to be renewed every two years. Temporary cards and cards obtained through online registration need to be renewed after three months. Out-of-area cards, which cost $25 a year, must be renewed annually. 

When it is time to renew your card, simply visit the West Fargo Public Library service desk with your photo ID (with your current address on it.) If you do not have your current, eligible address on your photo ID, please also bring a piece of mail addressed to you at your current address. At this time, parents or legal guardians must be present to renew the library cards of their dependants under the age of 18. 

6. Why do I need a West Fargo Library card?

A West Fargo Public Library card allows you to borrow physical and digital materials from the West Fargo Public Library, use online databases and resources, use library computers, check out books from the Little Red Reading Bus, and more.

7. Do you have different library card designs to choose from?

The West Fargo Public Library currently offers two design options for our library cards. One is a white card with the West Fargo Public Library logo on it. The other is a "My First Library Card" design intended for children under the age of 5.
