[ARCHIVED] City of West Fargo to celebrate Arbor Day May 17

City of West Fargo Arbor Day Celebration

The City of West Fargo, a Tree City USA community, will hold an Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019, at West Fargo City Hall to honor Miriam Arves.

Sponsored by the West Fargo Urban Forestry Committee, this annual celebration includes a mayoral proclamation, Tree City USA remarks, and tree planting celebration to honor Miriam Arves. Refreshments will be provided at the event by the Urban Forestry Committee.

This year’s tree planting ceremony will honor longtime West Fargo resident Miriam Arves. Arves was selected by the Urban Forestry Committee to honor her tenure as the former director of the West Fargo Public Library. Her tree will be ceremonially planted at West Fargo City Hall and later moved to Tintes Park. This event is free and open to the public.

About Arbor Day

According to the National Arbor Day Foundation, Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. The first Arbor Day was celebrated in Nebraska in 1872 and now all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and some U.S. territories have passed legislation adopting Arbor Day.
