[ARCHIVED] West Fargo Public Library celebrates National Library Week with “Food for Fines”

Food for Fines

The West Fargo Public Library is celebrating National Library Week April 7-13 by offering “Food for Fines” to patrons. For each non-perishable item brought to the library during this week, patrons may receive up to $2 in fine forgiveness for late, lost or damaged item fees.

The goal of the library’s “Food for Fines” week is to help people facing hunger in the community and re-engage library users who may be unable to borrow library materials due to accumulated fines. Items acceptable to donate include non-perishable, non-expired food and new, unused toiletries. Donations may be applied to current fines but cannot be used as credit for future fines. Items donated will be taken to a local food bank.

National Library Week 2019 marks the 61st anniversary of the weeklong event started by the American Library Association and American Book Publishers Council in 1958. The theme of National Library Week 2019 is “Libraries=Strong Communities.” Residents can help the West Fargo Public Library celebrate by visiting the library during National Library Week, getting a library card, attending one of the library’s many events, borrowing an E-book, following the library on Facebook and Twitter, and using the hashtag #WestFargoLibrary on social media to share how the West Fargo Public Library makes West Fargo stronger.
