Starting after noon on Wednesday May 9, contractors for the 13th Avenue Road Reconstruction and Infrastructure Improvement Project will begin phase two of the work by shifting traffic onto the existing pavement on the northside of the work zone. Crews will then begin removing the southside of the roadway to begin infrastructure improvements. Work on the southside will take about two – three months then traffic will shift to the newly constructed roadway to begin phase three on the northside of 13th Avenue.
Project work will require temporary closures of intersections on the south side of 13th Avenue. Intersection closures will be intermittent for up to two weeks and will be staggered so two consecutive intersections are not closed at the same time. Sidewalk removals will begin on both sides of the roadway to allow for city and private utilities to be installed under sidewalk areas.
During this phase of work, there will be lane restrictions at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 45th Street while crews replace deteriorating pavement. Once this project work begins at the intersection, it will take between two - three weeks to complete the needed work, weather permitting.
Currently the peak travel time through this work zone has been between 3 – 6 p.m. Please remember speeds are reduced to 25 mph and flaggers are present for everyone’s safety.
TRAFFIC CONTROL – Phase 2 will continue until end of June
Work zone: 13th Avenue between 45th Street S in Fargo to 12th Street E in West Fargo
Traffic control: Motorist are carried side-by-side on the northside of the roadway
OPEN:
- One driving lane plus dedicated left turn lane each direction
- Access to surrounding side streets
- Business access is maintained
CLOSED:
- Southside of the roadway
- Sidewalks: North to south pedestrian crossing is at 9th or 45th Streets.
Intermittent intersection work:
- South side access of 14th, 16th, 17th, 50th and 48th intersections
To access commerce or travel through the area, drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes for their east-west driving on alternative area roads.
