At approximately 9:09 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, the West Fargo Police Department was called to the intersection of 9th Street W. and 38th Avenue W. for reports of a reckless driver who had struck a light pole.
Officers located the vehicle in Rendezvous Park (1055 32nd Avenue W.), driving at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled southbound on Diversion Drive towards 39th ½ Avenue W., nearly colliding with oncoming traffic. A pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was successfully executed in the 4000 block of 9th Street W.
The driver of the suspect vehicle refused to exit the vehicle and ignored commands from surrounding officers. Officers attempted to de-escalate the incident and pepper balls were deployed in the vehicle. Officers approached using shields to apprehend the suspect, who remained combative.
Brandon Lee Thomas Lindsay, a 35-year-old male from West Fargo, North Dakota, was arrested on charges of DUI refusal, fleeing in a motor vehicle, preventing arrest, and hit and run fixed property.
A PIT is a controlled maneuver that is an effective way to end pursuits when the suspect vehicle is fleeing law enforcement. West Fargo Police Department officers conduct PIT maneuver training as another tool to safely end pursuits in order to protect the greater community.
The West Fargo Police Department was assisted by Sanford Ambulance. There were no injuries to emergency personnel or the suspect.
