The City of West Fargo is asking voters to approve a one-half percent (0.5%) sales tax increase during the 2022 general election in November to help fund public safety.
Why:
The West Fargo Police and Fire Departments are seeing a rise in financial need that outpaces the current property tax levels due to:
- West Fargo’s increasing population
- Growing school district
- Expanding visitor appeal
- Rise in mental and behavioral health issues
- Increasing number of calls for service
Benefits:
- Provide quality safety and security to the second largest school district in North Dakota
- Shares cost of services with visitors who also use and benefit from public safety services
- Increased presence for non-emergent quality of life crimes such as traffic complaints
- Additional personnel to respond to an increasing number of mental health calls for service
- Faster response times for fire and medical calls to meet national standards and to lower insurance rates
How:
Residents will need to vote yes on both City Measure #1 and City Measure #2 in November to approve the Public Safety Sales Tax.
