[ARCHIVED] West Fargo Public Library hosting annual Mitten Tree Drive for children in need

The West Fargo Public Library is hosting its annual Mitten Tree Drive this holiday season. This year’s drive will look different from past years due to COVID-19 but hopes to see the same amount of community donations.

From Dec. 9 through Jan. 9, donors can drop off new or like-new hats, mittens or scarves at the library. Handmade items are welcome. Collected items will be donated after the new year to West Fargo students who need winter gear.

Instead of the usual Mitten Tree display in the library, donations will be collected in a designated, social distanced box in the library’s lobby at 215 Third St E. Donors can enter the main doors on the south side of the Lodoen Community Center to drop off donations during curbside pickup hours, which are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Donors do not need to make an appointment to drop off items for the Mitten Tree Drive.

“The West Fargo Public Library is always looking for ways to support children in our community,” said Lauren Nephew, Youth Services Manager. “We know many children in West Fargo may not have the winter weather gear they need, especially during this difficult year with the pandemic. This is an easy way for us to help families who are in need.”

At this time, the West Fargo Public Library is only accepting donations for the Mitten Tree Drive. Book donations are not being accepted. The library will notify patrons via Facebook and the library website at www.westfargolibrary.org when book donations are again being accepted again.
