[ARCHIVED] City of West Fargo Veterans Day closures and garbage schedule changes

Veterans Day 2020

The City of West Fargo is closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, in observance of Veterans Day. There is no garbage collection that day. Wednesday and Thursday garbage collection will happen Thursday, Nov. 12. There are no changes to the recycling schedule.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, all municipal government buildings are also closed to the public, including City Hall, Public Library, Sanitation, Public Works and the Transfer Station. Public safety agencies are in full operation but the West Fargo Police and Fire Department buildings are closed to the public on this day.

The City of West Fargo contains three outdoor sites for residents who would like to honor veterans on Veterans Day. The POW/MIA Plaza, located at 400 Sheyenne St., is a public park recognizing prisoners of war and those missing in action next to the West Fargo VFW Post #7564. Maplewood Park, located at 1504 17th Ave. E., contains the Veterans Memorial in memory of those who served. The Fourth Street E. tree dedication, north of 31st Avenue E. near Maple Ridge Park, contains trees planted in dedication to local fallen heroes.    

The Department of Veterans Affairs and National Veterans Memorial Museum will also hold national, virtual events on Veterans Day. The Department of Veterans Affairs will host the annual National Veterans Day Observance at 10 a.m. Nov. 11, 2020, at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum will host a live online ceremony at 9 a.m. via Facebook and YouTube. The program includes remarks from TV host and veteran Montel Williams; Army Veteran and President and CEO of Big Lots, Inc.
