The official results of the June local election for two open seats on the West Fargo City Commission are in. Mandy George will become the newest West Fargo City Commissioner. Incumbent Mark Simmons will also return for a fifth term.
A special West Fargo City Commission meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, in the Commission Chambers of West Fargo City Hall (800 Fourth Ave. E., Suite 1, West Fargo, ND) to swear in the newest commissioner. During this meeting, the Commission will also designate portfolio and committee assignments, as well as appoint key staff positions.
Outgoing Commissioner Mike Thorstad, who did not seek re-election, began serving on the board in 2008 and was elected to three four-year terms on the Commission. During his time, Thorstad stated that he enjoyed working with other elected officials, staff members and the public.
“I leave the Commission knowing our relationships with neighboring jurisdictions have improved significantly and that the City’s operations and services have matured to keep pace with the growth and needs of West Fargo,” said Thorstad.
He plans to continue to be involved in the community and be available to assist the Commission and staff, if needed. During his tenure, Thorstad represented the City on boards of the Fargo Cass Public Health, the Cass Clay Food Commission and the F-M Diversion Authority. He also served terms on the West Fargo Public Library and the West Fargo Fire Department boards.
