Starting immediately, north and southbound traffic on Center Street from Seventh Avenue NE to 12th Avenue NE, is closed through Thursday, Aug. 29. All traffic will be detoured to Ninth Street NE. Access to businesses along this stretch will be available during the closure.
The closure was initially anticipated to only include southbound lanes, but is being expanded to a full road closure due to safety concerns for the workers in the area. This decision was sparked by an incident this morning of a motorist disobeying the initial closure and coming into contact with a worker. While the incident had the potential to be very serious, the worker escaped with no injuries.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, southbound Center Street will close from Seventh Avenue N. to 12th Avenue N. for concrete repair. Northbound Center Street will remain open during this closure, as well as access to businesses along this stretch. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Ninth Street N. The southbound lane will reopen Thursday, Aug. 29.
Motorists in this area should plan for delays and congestion during the morning and evening commutes and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Always use the ‘S’ check when traveling in and around construction areas – check your speed, space and stress.
