Breaking Barriers: Harvesting LGBTQ Stories from the Northern Plains (a Red River Rainbow Seniors oral history project))

Saturday, November 19, 2022

Coordinated by Larry Peterson, "Breaking Barriers" includes three interviews, all of which are part of the Red River Rainbow Seniors ongoing oral history project.

Breaking Barriers: Harvesting LGBTQ Stories from the Northern Plains vividly evokes the challenges and triumphs of a pioneer generation in their own words. Coordinated by Larry Peterson, these three interviews are part of the Red River Rainbow Seniors ongoing oral history project. Organized by the North Dakota Library Association, this program is made possible by a grant from Humanities North Dakota, a nonprofit, independent state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This event is free and open to the public.

About Larry Peterson:
Peterson is a long-time gay rights activist who coordinates the "Breaking Barriers" oral history project. He is a Professor Emeritus of History at NDSU where he has worked for over 40 years. He moved to Fargo in 1959 when he started junior high school. After graduating from Fargo Central High in 1965, he earned his BA in English from Moorhead State University and his PhD in American Studies from the University of Minnesota.
