City of West Fargo to celebrate Arbor Day May 12

The City of West Fargo, a Tree City USA community, will hold an Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at West Fargo City Hall to honor Lester Hazer.

Sponsored by the West Fargo Urban Forestry Committee, this annual celebration includes a mayoral proclamation and remarks, tree planting celebration and an activity with third-grade students from L.E. Berger Elementary School. Refreshments will be provided at the event by the Urban Forestry Committee.

This year’s tree planting ceremony will honor longtime West Fargo resident and businessman Lester Hazer. Hazer, age 103, opened Hazer’s Auto and Truck Parts in West Fargo in 1969. Hazer’s tree will be ceremonially planted at West Fargo City Hall and later moved to a city park planned as part of the city’s downtown revitalization near the new West Fargo Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7564 location to honor Hazer’s love of dancing at the VFW.
