National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day is Wednesday, December 21st which is the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. All community members are invited to participate in a 4 block walk in Fargo. The procession leaves from the US Bank Plaza (Broadway & 2 Ave. N.) at 6:45 pm heading to First Lutheran Church. Those unable to walk should meet at the church located at 619 N. Broadway where a brief Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. The event remembers and honors people in our community who died as the result of their experience with homelessness.

1. In cold temperatures, approach with caution and assume that all wet, dark areas on pavements are slippery and icy. 2. During bad weather, avoid boots or shoes with smooth soles and heels. Instead, wear shoes or boots that provide traction on snow and ice; boots made of non-slip rubber or neoprene with grooved soles are best. 3. Use special care when entering and exiting vehicles; use the vehicle for support. 4. Walk in designated walkways as much as possible. Taking shortcuts over snow piles and other frozen areas can be hazardous. Look ahead when you walk; a snow- or ice covered sidewalk or driveway, especially if on a hill, may require travel along its grassy edge for traction.
